Hello there, I decided to try something new here and actually try and interview an actual record label. The label that I interviewed is a label that goes by the name of Salad Dressing Records. They are an independant label focusing on postive punk, hardcore, emo, and just plain beatifull music. Here is what turned out in the interview.
Choking Hazard: Lets start of by telling the readers a little history on SD Records. When did you start, whats new with the label, etc?
SD Records: Well, it all started out in 1998, with the idea of a joke record label when I was in grade 10. A homepage was made and Salad Dressing Records was born... SDR never began as a thought out business plan or idea but more rather something that just continued to evolve. The joke seemed that it could be a reality so I pursued the idea of a punk and hardcore compilation CD. August 1999 marked the first release for SDR - Songs From the Salad Bar had 25 punk and hardcore bands from all over Canada and the USA, from there the label gained bands to the roster and actually this summer (2001) will mark the label's 10th release and 2 year anniversary. As for new stuff with the label, we just put out 2 full length cd's with THE KICKER and FARFETCHED.... and this summer we'll be releasing the VERONICA - EP - "Love Letters From The August Society" the cd will contain unreleased material as a prelude to their full length emo pop cd on MILITIA GROUP RECORDS. Also this summer will bring SDRecords Sampler CD #1... it will contain 2 tracks from every
SDR band for just $4... all the finest tracks from: THE ROCK BAND, FARFETCHED, FAIRVIEW, VERONICA, THE KICKER, BEAUTY TO ASHES, FALLEN SILENT, JENNY MOORE, EVERY NEW DAY, and DREAMING OF THE FIFTH.
Choking Hazard: What inspired you to start your own label?
SD Records: As I said before it started as a joke, but really the inspiration came from how much I looked up to the music industry in a sense.... I always loved knowing everything about Tooth And Nail Records and now it's cool to be working with bands on that label.
Choking Hazard: I was noticing on your links page, that there are a lot of Christian label links, and so forth, Do you consider SD Records a christian label?
SD Records: YES, SDRecords is a Christian label. All our bands are Christian, I am a Christian, and we will only put out positive Christian music, there's enough negative out there, why add to that mass? God took a stand for me, so I feel I should take a stand for Him. IT's not like i'm here to cram down a religion down your throat.. it's not about that... all I know is that my faith in God is real and something I know more of in my life than anything, and the love that God has for me is overwhelming, I don't understand why I wouldn't want to share this truth that has been revealed to me and many others to put our lives on solid ground.
Choking Hazard: If someone wanted to get involved with SD Records, how would they go about it?
SD Records: Well, right now SDR is sort of booked when it comes to upcoming releases and bands on the roster but we accept unsolicited demo's - information can be found at our website www.sdrecords.com
Choking Hazard: What do you feel is the vision of SD Records?
SD Records: The vision of SDR...?..... to bring quality music with a quality message and not put out anything we wouldn't listen to personally.
Choking Hazard: Is there anything that you would like to leave with the people that are reading this, words of inspirations, etc?
SD Records: Stand up for what you believe in and don't back down, know what you believe and why you believe it, and let's not get caught up with the ways of this world, it all means nothing when you die - money, cars, houses, etc... what will you have left?
